Welcome to my homepage. I have been an assistant professor at San Francisco State University since 2004.
My current research interests lie broadly in Bioinformatics and in Multimedia Systems. In Bioinformatics,
the ultimate goal of my research is to develop algorithms and computation as methodologies that can be used in
in conjunction with traditional techniques from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to understand the biochemical nature of
life. I am currently working in molecular structural analysis and querying, structure-property modeling,
and algorithms for analysis and mining of bio-chemical information.
In Multimedia, I am especially interested in developing theory and techniques that allow unified
modeling, processing, querying, and interactions with multiple-media. The ability to recognize
correlations between different media is essential to
a range of emerging sensor and media rich applications such as search, information analysis and assimilation,
and pervasive computing. My research group is conducting investigations in various aspects of this problem including development of
unified data models for multimedia, media processing and analysis, query paradigms for multimedia, and
next-generation user interfaces for interacting
with multimedia data.
My earlier research was in Computer Vision and Vision-Based Robotics. These areas continue to influence my research
methodology. More information about my research is available at the web-site of my research group
